Post mortem was a popular photography practice started in Victorian to preserve a picture of the recently deceased. Many times in these pictures you can spot strings, greying skin, unnatural positions, etc.

With this picture you can see unnatural pose of child with adjustments made to eyes to improve " livelihood" of child.

Frame is painted gold with some blemishes due to age. Backing is brown felt fabric with an extendable leg.
